Ballroom dancing is a partner dance style that is enjoyed in social and competitive circles around the world. Due to its popularity, ballroom dancing is also widely enjoyed on on film, television, and stage. Ballroom dancing can be broken down into the following categories.
Main styles can be separated into two umbrella categories: American Ballroom and International Ballroom. American is the main style for all beginners and is broken down into two sub categories: American Smooth and American Rhythm. International Ballroom is dubbed as the more difficult of the two categories. International Ballroom is broken down into International Standard and International Latin.
In the American Smooth and International Standard, the most popular styles are Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Viennese waltz. International Latin style consists of Rhumba, Cha Cha, Samba, Pasa Doble, and Jive. American Rhythm style has the Cha Cha, Swing, Mambo, Bolero, and Rhumba. Yes, all of this seems overwhelming, but most people just specialize in one category, so go out and find your favorite.
