Mountain Bike Features

Brakes

These are used for stopping the bike and to help maintain balance.

Crank

The component the chainrings are attached to.

Derailleur

Derails the chain from one chain ring to another, thus changing gears.

Frames

The core of the bikes, keeps all other parts of the bike together.

Handlebars

Used to steer and maneuver the bike.

Pedals

Used to propel the bike into motion.

Saddles

Usually lightweight and padded, this is the seat for the rider.

Shifters

Used to shift the gears of the bike.

Suspension

This is the system that suspends the rider, parts of the bike, or the entire bike to minimize the impact of rough terrain.

Wheels

Specific to the type of bike, wheels are the part that make contact with the ground.
