History of Social Dance
Dancing has always been a large part of the history of humanity. In America for example, the tribal dances of Native American communities have been a vital part of their culture for centuries. Over the decades, different ages of music brought people together to dance and enjoy good company.
In the 1960’s, variety television shows brought different styles of dance to the conservative american home. (For a great example of this get your hands on a copy of Hairspray The Musical.) In the 70’s, the popular show Soul Train featured African American dancers who showed off their skills on the dance floor. Eventually everyone wanted in on the fun and social dancing morphed into a form of entertainment at social gatherings and celebrations which still holds true today.
